Working from a cafe: what to check

Ask whether work is welcome

Check the cafe laptop policy and any limits on table use before you arrive. A visible laptop in a photograph is not confirmation of the current rules. Explain roughly what you need, especially if you plan to stay through a busy period.

Check the practical setup

Ask about Wi-Fi, power outlets and suitable seating if these are essential. Do not assume every table has an outlet or that a connection will support your work. Bring a charged device and choose a different setting for tasks needing guaranteed facilities.

Choose suitable activities

Consider whether calls and meetings suit the room. Ask staff where conversations are acceptable and use headphones for listening. For confidential discussions or work that needs silence, arrange a more appropriate workspace instead of depending on a public cafe.

Respect the space

Follow the cafe rules, keep belongings within your seating area and leave walkways clear. Check the ordering expectations for a longer stay. If staff need the table or the environment changes, be ready to finish or move without disrupting service.
